How can someone be so dumb as to have a loaded weapon in the car?

It's worth noting that they were in the process of getting ready to go

Still a very dumb way to go out though

Extremely dumb, you never ever put down a loaded weapon like that. No reason whatsoever to have a round in the chamber before being outside the car and having both hands on the rifle, muzzle pointing in a safe direction.

The headline shouldn't be "dog shoots man", it should be "man negligently fails to clear weapon".

This happened a few days ago and I've been wondering ever since what they were hunting with a rifle and a dog? A shotgun I can understand, or maybe a .22lr for squirrels but it's unlikely the guy would die from a .22 round unless it was a strategically placed shot.

He coulda been going out deer hunting and was just taking the dog out for it to have a chance to run around in the woods with him while he hunted.

The only thing open in Kansas that can be hunted with a rifle right now is elk. No-one brings their dog to hunt elk. Unless they left dog in the truck

Dog got fed up with all those "man bites dog" stories on the news and took matters into his own paws.
