I tried this for February, and it was generally well received.

There's at least one more month in me, and so I mapped out another month of concerts, events, and performances that showcase a city that has everything. I tried to listen to some of last month's feedback too and better diversify the types of events.

As before, I would love to hear what you think. Personally, I'm enjoying the treasure hunt that comes with assembling these. ...Is anyone actually using them?

Agreed. Traditionally though the top mod would get mad at folks to see this sorta content stayed up. Let’s see if that’s still the case. I agree this sorta stuff is when the subs at its best.

I really wanted to include that, actually! The only issue was I was trying very hard to make sure every event was within the five boroughs of NYC. I love the idea of expanding what sports one can see being played professionally around here.

philosophical_whale t1_j9yl2w6 wrote

Any recommendations for getting to Mount Vernon from NYC?

Would love to get to one of these games but seems like a bit of a hassle without a car.

nyknicks23 t1_j9ymvtf wrote

5 train up to Eastchester then a 8 minute bus ride, 6 minute Uber, or a 30 minute walk

Douglaston_prop t1_j9yy6e6 wrote

I was told to take the Metro North train from Grand Central 4 stops to Pelham. The walk from the stadium is under 1 mile and passes pizza shops, bars, parks, etc...

I hear the new stadium is beautiful and should be worth the effort to get there.

mesoliteball t1_j9x4q03 wrote

If anybody’s looking for particular recommendations: Svadba (on the 31st and 1st) and Cantori New York (on the 4th and 5th) are each going to be exceptional, like nothing you’ve heard (… literally, in the case of Cantori’s two premieres :)).

To OP: I used to do this for money so it’s very moving to see you doing it for pleasure and to help others

Does anyone remember the mid 2000s happy hour excel spreadsheet that used to get passed around? You could find awesome deals with that thing!

TimeOut magazine also used to be the place to get this kind of info but the internet obviously changed the way things happen.

Thank you for putting this together richarrizard

Well, since you brought up a Broadway play, I figured I'd mention this, Peter Pan Goes Wrong. I discovered the group via Youtube videos during the pandemic.

15

richarizard OP t1_j9ynwk0 wrote

YES - I'm a HUGE Broadway fan and tried to be extremely selective in which Broadway show I would call out. I also tried to have most of the events be free or at least affordable. (Though with lottery, rush, etc., it is certainly possible to see a Broadway show for much less than the default price on the ticketing site.)

In addition to Peter Pan Goes Wrong, there's also the currently-playing Off-Broadway Play That Goes Wrong.

And if I were to promote one more Broadway show for March, Dancin' begins previews on March 2. Personally I'm counting down the days to see that one!!

Saw the play that goes wrong a while ago and thought it was hilarious!

Thank you for doing this, but —

$125 for Seth Rudetsky on a Monday??? Good grief!

Edit for the downvoters: I love Seth Rudetsky but that is steep. It’s more than Broadway Backwards or Broadway Bares. If he can fill the seats and that’s his sweet spot for venue size x price, more power to him, but damn. Weirdly specific and poignant reminder that this city is merciless.

This is a great list, and like some other Redditors commented great variety. I'd like to add 1 item:

Where: Perrotin Art Gallery, 130 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002

When: March 3 to April 15

What: three new exhibits:

  • JR (my favorite, this alone is worth the trip IMO)
  • Nikki Maloof
  • Sophia Narrett

Link: https://www.perrotin.com/exhibitions/upcoming/new-york/4

P.S.: Redditors, please add your picks, I will be returning to this post again.

I'll add one more art pick on top of yours: Cy Twombly at the Gagosian on 980 Madison Avenue.

It's a BREATHTAKING collection of late career works by him and closes March 4. Easily my favorite art show so far in 2023.

Thank you for sharing!

It's not easy!! My starting point is a very long list of bookmarked calendars that I go through one at a time. Then it becomes a giant Google Search problem, where I'm trying different dates, boroughs, and event types until I've got something for every day.

For anyone who wants a weekly list I’ve really enjoyed Art Hap. It used to be just a weekly email but they recently also created this website: https://www.arthap.com/

“We find every art exhibition opening in NYC in house, unlike any other art event app or website. If you want to know exactly what’s happening at every gallery in the city, look no further than Art Hap.”
