I've reported multiple vehicles with no plates, and with an hour the SR notice is closed out with various comments all stating that vehicle not found....... always BS. I've sent pics, address, descriptions. Completely BS

Last time I had a successful vehicle removed was around the 1st Quarter of 2022. That's probably after getting 4+ cars towed in my area. Since then, all the vehicles I report come back with a "Car was claimed by owner".

I was able to get one towed by going on twitter of the NYPD and tagging the mayor and the local council person. You could see on google maps the has been there for at least 6 month with a boot on it!

They've always been the agency responsible for towing vehicles without license plates. You could use 311 to make the report for a while now.

BUT! And here's the rub, when you'd make the report, there was a pretty good chance they'd close it out without actually removing the vehicle. .

I know from multiple personal experiences. Vehicles without plates, who I photographed without plates and put those photos in the report would suddenly have plates when DSNY closed out the complaint. I'd have to contact the NYPD for a tow, it's not DSNY responsibility, you see.

Similar tricks and tactics are also used by NYPD for cars with plates. They'll suddenly lose plates when they go close out the complaint meaning you have to notify DSNY for a tow, it's not NYPD responsibility you see...

The other thing they'd do is close the report by stating the offending item was removed, and would you guess it, the abandoned truck was there, the next morning, as if it sprouted from the ground.

Does this apply to cars parked on the sidewalk too? Because it’s starting to get out of control around me.

DSNY can only tag cars with no plates or facsimiles. NYPD is responsible for removing [towing] all vehicles except those that are considered derelict. [Cars with no real value]

The NYPD claims they’ll tow a car if it’s not ina parking space. We acquired a massive floor jack and will put the cars in the street soon and see what the NYPD or DOS actually does. We had a car with bullet holes and half a license plate dropped in a spot and left abandoned for months. Multiple reports blah blah blah “ongoing police investigation”. The fucker/owner got bailed out of jail, ona gun charge, and just came and took his “seized/under investigation” car and drove it off. Now detectives are asking us for info and pics of the car. No boot, all 311 calls and PD visits basically told us to go fuck our selves. I’m just pulling cars into the street and seeing what they do. This is so dumb and literally the only people I see caring about are on Reddit. Has this been in the times or post?

They’ll move them when they’re obstructing traffic, push them out in the street and the city will move to get traffic moving

Appreciated, I don’t want to mess up people’s commute but it’s getting ridiculous and our community board has tried working with the local precinct.

It’ll fuck up someone’s commute if people are double parked on that street because there’s never any parking. If the NYPD was about it you wouldn’t have to do this

On their Instagram they do precinct by precinct crawls where they'll hit 40 or so vehicles in one neighborhood in a night. It's slow and they do it maybe twice a week but they have been doing it for a bit
