I wish your friend the best of luck in his recovery. Is he insured? Has a PCP placed precertification for the rehab? Have you confirmed with insurance that it is in network? Do not rely on third party websites like zocdocs. Call the insurance directly with your friend on the line as musch of this process is HIPAA protected.

unfortunately he isn't insured. he doesn't have a job so he doesn't have insurance. just the ny health that everyone gets.

So how this works is person goes into a detox , then a inpatient program afterwards. Unless it’s like a money isn’t an issue type of thing . No insurance is the best insurance in this state. So any detox person then says hey I want to go do a 28 day program or longer they make arrangements.

Realization Center and Parallax are good for outpatient work.

Langone or any of the major treatment centers would be ideal for detox, though I'm not sure of their admission availability.

I say try Realization Center and ask if they take the NY insurance.

Brooklyn Methodist has an excellent and compassionate detox unit. I don't know how effective Samaritan Daytop is but they have a long history and developed post-treatment resources.

If he has private insurance, Ascendant NY is his best option in Manhattan.

I would also recommend looking into these OTCs that have shown in studies to reduce alcohol cravings: NAC, kudzu root and valerian root. Do not mix NAC with booze, NAC must be metabolised first so it should be taken at least an hour prior to drinking, otherwise it forms a toxic compound.
