Just wanted other NYC peeps to know about Too Good to Go. It's an app where stores, at closing time, sell $4-6 bags with food that is probably going to go bad soon or has been sitting out all day. Bagel stores usually give out extra bagels, cafes give out croissants/pastries, etc. And I have only seen local businesses that do this so it supports local.

I mainly wanted to hype it up because some stores, for the price you pay, give so much extra food. Just yesterday I picked up 4 pastries from a cafe. I saved two for breakfast but I'm only one person so I was going to bring in the extras for co-workers, but on my commute I saw some people who were homeless and were able to give them a quick meal.

I promise this is not sponsored lol I just think this app is great whether you just need some quick bites, or want a cheap way of getting food to share with the homeless population.

Adding to this, as a 2G2G addict… follow their IG and also the NYC account to see reviews/ previews of the hauls.

My friends on the UWS picks up crazy stuff for super cheap from this app. (We clearly have a bread/bakery surplus up here).

Bagel shops are the best deal on there. I’ve gotten an entire grocery bag of gourmet bagels for $6.

I used this a few times when I was in college. I used it again the other day because I had forgotten it was still on my phone. Not very impressed anymore. A lot of places were sold out and the place I got food from went from 5 slices of pizza when I used to use it to 3 now. Maybe I'm just being overly picky but I probably won't use it again.

Used this last year for Bread’s Bakery

Was hoping to score a babka or some cheese straws but I got a dinner roll and a salad

Deleted the app since

It's ok, depends on the store. Some stores use it to give you a sub par meal - so if the usual meal if $10,and you pay $5, expect to get half a meal for $5.

Dude...it's already hard enough to get the good stuff without more competition.

Interesting. And I’m seeing lots of other apps that do this on the App Store so this app isn’t the only one. Wonder which is best?

I had some great pick ups. But I've noticed that most places will give you croissants, bagels, breads typically heavy on carbs. There are a few grocery stores and I've gotten bags of produce for $10.

The Indian place near me is on it and they straight up give you whole normal dishes you’d pay full price for. I’ve been working late so picking up a full ass meal with usually enough for lunch the next day at like 8pm for $8? Yeah that’s hard to beat.

Love the app! I've just noticed you've really got to lean into the reviews. My motto is only get from places with over 4 stars, though.

Dude, we only share this info with fam and friends.

Alright folks, nothing to see here. Please move along. Everything is fine.

Lotta carbs, breads, some pre-made salads you might not actually like, etc. One time I scored a box of empanadas, and another time I got some kick-ass pizza. But I’ve stopped using the app because it so rarely seems to have anything I actually want, even at that price.

That kind of makes sense though. Things that go stale quickly and they couldn't sell in time. Bagels and the like tend to need to be fresh.

twas a colossal waste of time. will never use again.

i’ve used it a bunch and it’s great… i feel like that’s how much food should actually cost. however i stopped using it cuz i was getting lots of unhealthy food.

i've used this app a bunch of times. honestly? i wish i'd get more besides all sorts of breads/pastries. what you get is usually great for the price, but it gets old getting breads/pastries.

I tested this out awhile ago, a store ran out of food so they gave me a a double the value of gift cards instead which was random. Seems like a great app for folks that love bagels, bread, pastries and pizza.

Used this the other day for the pizzeria down the street, five slices of my choice for $4.99.

Setting an alarm for the bagel place tomorrow 😋

I usually only use it when I'm on the run and forgot to make a meal -- it's a good quick to go thing, and I usually get something extra that I can have for breakfast the next day or can give out to someone who needs it.
