The escalator actually gives me vertigo at the top.

lakehop t1_jeh1ibg wrote

Definitely get vertigo if it’s long enough.

I can neither look up or down that one when I'm on it and I've been riding subway escalators over 60 years. It's a doozy.

nychuman t1_jefk6kf wrote

Have you seen the ones at Grand Central Madison/LIRR?

This is nothing!

BonesJustice t1_jefyb8b wrote

Yeah, I don’t walk down those. I tried the first time, and I started experiencing vertigo.

I lived one block from this for 14 years until 7 months ago. This was my main subway station. I barely even recognize it, but it’s a good taste of home.

Bummed 184th entrance will be closed til August

15

whitestlung t1_jeg038r wrote

That means the elevators wont have access right?

2

tessajanuary t1_jeg5zha wrote

I haven't checked it out today yet, but my understanding is that the elevators are staying open, it's just the tunnel to overlook that's being closed.

broadcastterp t1_jeh2kqx wrote

This is correct - the two entrances will be at 181st and 184th and Fort Washington

The escalator construction on 53rd and Lex is killing me. I’m getting yelled at all morning to “stay to the right!”

10

nonlawyer t1_jefvxx8 wrote

Maybe you should stay to the right then lol

we360u45 t1_jefwhn4 wrote

I do stay to the right, they yell at me through a microphone regardless

meekonesfade t1_jeftcml wrote

I once came home from a long night of drinking and decided it was a better idea to puke next to the escalator than on the escalator. Sorry to whomever had to clean that up, but I think we can all agree I made the right choice.

Is this the station that has the four elevators? And all this time I had no idea there were escalators!

2

scottmakingcents t1_jeh1szr wrote

On the 181st side there are stairs and this escalator. On the 184th side, elevators.

internally t1_jegqmxi wrote

Thank fucking God. I moved back in at the right time.

adam_mars98 t1_jeg2nzd wrote

Let’s count the amount of days before it stops working.

I am sad because now they are closing my entrance because that one is open. Will add another 10 minutes to my commute. I’ve lived at 181 for 3.5 years and that station has been under construction the entire time. I plan to move at the end of the year and I expect I will have lived at that stop for 4 years and it will not have been completely functional that entire time.
