Has proven to be widely unpopular outside of fringe groups, and the pushing of this narrative in 2020 probably directly helped elect a cop as Mayor of this city.

You would be right if it wasn't for the fact that you're wrong. Progressive "defund" politicians won their races in landslides and moderates lost seats.

See: the election of Eric Adams and Kathy Hochul. Progressives haven’t won in any state or citywide elections.
