Buses could run more frequently. The schedule got cut drastically on many routes some years back and never recovered.

Sure, obviously things could be improved, but come on, it's not like it's hard to get around Manhattan without a car. This isn't a suburb of LA, it's a region with dozens of heavy rail transit lines running 24/7. If Manhattan can't support every other street being car free, literally nowhere else on the planet can.

I want more crosstown busways personally (like 14th). I’d do 34th, 42nd, and 57th as the bare minimum.

And much more severe restrictions for standing in bus lanes.

Yes but not on a busway. Busways are roads that are closed to ordinary traffic.

We need a busway on 23rd. I can walk to Traders Joe’s quicker than taking a bus sometimes and it’s three stops away.

Pedestrian streets are really great. Especially eating outside when the weather is nice.

not the case in literally any pedestrian friendly city - it's called roofs lol!

but for now, you are still correct. new york's haphazard street shacks threw up during covid certainly won't cut it - but i am sure that restaurants will invest in proper outdoor infrastructure once they have a guarantee that their street is going to be pedestrianized. unless the food is bomb as hell, people will choose the restaurant next door with outdoor heaters, enclosed seating, and properly sealed rain-proof roofs.

You made a lot of really great points. My previous comment wasn't against open streets, I was just saying they aren't fun in bad weather

yeah, it's really a bummer in shit weather. however i was recently in paris during some rain and was pleasantly surprised to see lots of folks still opting to use the outdoor seating, granted they were bundled up appropriately!

Superblocks would be amazing and so much more efficient. The traffic light at every intersection thing going on in NYC is.... crazy.

It even seems potentially cost effective, since street structure probably needs to be redone anyway. But even if not, it would be nice for quality of life. Cars have WAY too much real estate. You'd think residents/pedestrians should have at least as much. Humans need some nature and clean air, which sounds obvious, but not to NYC so much.
