I used to have a commute that would take me across 23rd. I used to lol when I'd basically walk at the same speed as the bus traveling across the length of it.

I'm all for congestion pricing to keep some folks out of Manhattan. However, there are just too many taxis and other livery vehicles on some streets. 6th Avenue is a perfect example. You have multiple subway lines right there. You have buses right there.

I don’t take the bus too often but had to bring my daughter to a new dentist and go from west village to east village - got on the m14 and forgot that there are no cars allowed on 14th for a big chunk. We flew! I’d definitely be more likely to take the bus if more crosstown streets were just for them.

It makes no sense to me that cars are given a green light to go (either straight, turning left, or turning right), and if they are turning left or right, pedestrians also have the walk light on these crosswalks to the left and right of the street. This is what makes it so dangerous for pedestrians: cars and people walking are allowed (by the light, but not by law) to occupy the same space at the same time. Have all red lights at the same time that all crosswalks have walk lights, then, have vertical grid green, then horizontal grid green.

I think you mean you’d like more red and green arrows for turning vehicles so they don’t mix with pedestrians. But this is less efficient for most of the day outside rush hour

Before congestion pricing is implemented I’d like to see NYPD out ticketing double parked vehicles that are the root cause of a majority of traffic congestion in NYC

Between bikes, mopeds, electric scooters, cars, trucks, vans, etc. and a large portion of those vehicles not following traffic laws or yielding to pedestrians, yeah it’s fucking dangerous.

Hey, thanks for the personal insult. Really elevated the conversation.

I've been walking in this city since the 1970s. I've never been hit by anything. If you're so scared of walking the streets that you have to take a bus to deal with your paranoia caused by the occasional extremely rare crash, maybe you live in the wrong city. Or maybe you should seek mental health counseling to deal with your anxiety issues.

And, yes, watch where you're going. Keep your phone in your pocket. Pay attention to your surroundings. You'll be fine.
