Hi r/nyc

I think some members of the community would be interested in a tool I've been developing called AlgoNYC. It's a web & mobile platform that centralizes various sources of New York City's open data—land use, construction permits, 311 complaints, zoning, ACRIS, and much more.

The goal is to make NYC property and market research easy for anyone, not just real estate professionals, as well as to enhance mobile accessibility for data sources that are generally cumbersome.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I could make the platform better?

The website is www.algonyc.com and the iPhone app is available at https://apple.co/3CCc9Ft. Both are 100% free.

Map is nice. Properties are a little slow to load. I bet that doesn't matter much though for people who'd use this. You could probably make the page load a lot faster if you moved some data queries to separate AJAX requests.

Are you loading the data straight form open data or store them locally?

Thanks for this! I have to pull city data on properties all the time for my job (ie., residential vs commercial sqft, assessed value, etc.) this platform is nice to have all the data in one place as the city’s Zola platform only has use data and we have to look up tax info separately through DOF. Might I suggest being able to look up properties by their BBL and also export data in excel format? I know others in my industry would be interested in testing this further.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't heard of that site before and it's definitely awesome. At first glance, they appear to focus on HPD data specifically for the purpose of examining housing and landlords as well as piercing LLCs. We pull a wider array of data in an attempt to cover various types of properties—residential, commercial, condos, etc.—and to enable different types of analyses such as via our explorer map. We also have a native iOS app that's quite useful when you're on the street.

They have some really cool features though. I'm going to dig around.

This already exists…

And the data is not real time
