My dog Tulip was lost in Midtown on 9/23 when my building manager decided to shut down the elevators to service them without notifying the tenants. I called the elevator to my floor, the elevator doors opened about 6 inches, my dog walked in ahead of me and the doors immediately closed on her leash (and almost on my fingers as I tried to stop them). Her harness was ripped off as the elevator went to the ground floor and she ran out the front door of the building. I feel so guilty for letting her walk in front of me but I had no idea something like this was possible. I’m feeling pretty hopeless that I will ever get my dog back but just wanted to vent. I put up thousands of flyers, did all social media, checked vets and shelters and Craigslist and people selling dogs, walked miles through the city in dead of night, hired pet detectives, paid for all lost pet alert services, police, scent items, tried to contact department of sanitation to see if they found a dead dog but got no response. If anyone knows anything about a female Black and Tan Chihuahua mix (microchipped and was wearing a collar with tag) please help.

Oh my god, I am so sorry. I know how hard it is to lose your baby. May she find her way back home ❤️ if you haven’t already, try posting on NYC lost dog pages, and doing shelter searches. Sending you both so much love!

No joke. I’ve had a friend find their lost dog this way the same day they posted. Pet people gotta look out for each other.

Omg, i started to cry reading your story. That really is a freak accidental way to loose your animal. And she was probably so afraid she just kept going. When I was going away on a trip i decided to my Chihuahua to my families home to dog sit. As soob as the cab pulled up, and i attempted to put my bags in, Rocky said "NOPE!" and bolted through the Brooklyn streets. When I tell you my heart stopped and like a mad woman, i went flying down the street. The cab, stayed with me and also searched on wheels. Neighbors who heard my screams blocks away stayed alert until someone cornered him. I just kept thinking about him getting hit by a car while running in the streets. But A month????? 😔 sadly she's probably in somebody else house with a new collar and a new name. Very sad to say it, but we know small, cute and scared dogs rarely stay "lost" for too long. I'm so sorry

Contact local shelters and police departments. Be really annoying about it-call everyday few days. She will probably turn up. I’ve heard of lost animal P.I.’s in New York, probably expensive but worth it. So sorry this happened to you-don’t lose hope! She is out there passing people everyday that could recognize her.

I hope you find her soon. Fuck your building management. That’s insane and infuriating.

I know, they always block off the elevators when they’re doing work but not that day. I am still furious.

Saw the poster today around 25th and 9th and a few other times. I've been keeping an eye out for the last month, I walk a lot down all the avenues.

not sure if anyone already said this, but a helpful tip I learned is to take a piece of your dog’s clothing/toys and put it out in a place that your dog knows well (like a park you always used to walk in or in front of your house), and check up on it often, hopefully your baby will sniff it out and wait there for you ❤️‍🩹 best wishes and good luck! 🍀

ps if you do this, leave a note nearby asking not to move the items!

I would guess about 2-3 weeks ago there was a lost chiuauaha that matches that description reported to be running around in central park . I believe it was said to be by the Lake area? You could try calling the urban park rangers or asking some of the dog walkers in that area that could have seen it? Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you, was this posted online somewhere?

I just overheard a park ranger talking about it last time i was in central park. The cp ranger office number is 212-360-1444 if you want to try and ask if it has been seen recently?
