I’ve lived in NY my entire life but employed many who move to NYC to start their adult life. I highly recommend you have a plan for employment before moving because living in NY is expensive. I’d reach out to potential NY employers in your industry/field and tell them of your intention on moving to NY, they could always conduct a Zoom interview.

I think SF is less the place to be than it’s been in decades. No?

I did the same thing at 28. Before I moved I was fired from a job that I absolutely hated. Ended up being a blessing because New York was the best thing I could have done for me in terms of career and personal growth.

Find a good job and live in CT or Upstate NY.

If you're single and making about $200k you'll probably be ok

Do the two city's really compare though?

NYC is great.
Don’t be deterred by all the talk about crime or other city issues.
You’ll notice that a lot of New Yorkers really care about the city, that’s why they are vocal, but that’s also a big part of why NYC is great.

There is not better place to live when single. That’s the bottom line. Imagine being comfortable in the biggest city in America. There is nothing to compare it to in the English speaking world.

Not necessarily. You’d be fine with 100k. Even less if you decide to live in the boroughs.

I did the same and never regretted that. Although my life in my home country was far from boring. But moving to another country into such a huge city as NYC raised my level of non-boringness to a totally new degree. It took me about 5 years to get bored again. Do you can count on that time.

If you’re single, bored and have nothing tying you down to wherever you are now, do it for sure.
