Happy Anniversary and welcome!

Logistically, The Jane makes more sense IMO if you haven't visited NYC before — and that matters if you only have 3 days. If you enjoy art, you'll be near the Whitney Museum and the gallery district (don't miss King Pleasure) and a short subway ride away from MOMA. If art isn't your thing, you'll be right by the Highline.

Hope this is useful. Have fun!

Chinatown closes so early that walking through there at night just seems to boring. I would spend the little extra money and stay at the Jane

One in a blue moon you’ll spot someone who’s not accommodating to someone who’s LGBTQ+ and give them a hard time (or worse), whether in a public space, park, so on Fortunately people would like to help encourage & drown out the noise, even if that person (the hater) makes it a scene.

True though, you’ll be in better hands in New York City, tourist or local/commuter, so 98% likely you’ll just be fine.

No one is chasing you down the block for being gay on Staten Island. Your parents just disown you.

Anything can happen and these days it's best to stay aware of your surroundings, but downtown Manhattan is one of the most accepting places you'll find anywhere. Nobody thinks twice about who's with who, which is as it should be.
