44th and Broadway is one way. Idiot was looking the wrong way. It’s fairly easy to jaywalk if you’re paying attention.

This is why the speed limit is 25 MPH. Dude survived.

Edit: risk of serious injury reduced

The speed limit isn’t 25 because people randomly run into the street

It’s exactly why it’s 25. If we didn’t have to worry about people randomly running into the street, we wouldn’t have to worry about reducing the severity of collisions.

Umm getting hit by 3000 lbs at 25 mph is really really bad lol.

But if the car was going faster it would have passed by before the dude ran into the side of him, if the car was slower then he would have been hit head on.

ParadoxScientist t1_iti47cw wrote

The car was going much slower than 25mph. The driver was not at fault, at all. There was nothing they could have done because the pedestrian essentially jumped at the car last second.

What's he going to do, hold him upside down by his feet and shake him out for loose change?

tofu- t1_itljksq wrote

Someone could come at your car with a sledgehammer in broad daylight and not pay any damages. You gonna tie the guy up and wait for a police report, then take him to small claims?

Grass8989 t1_itlk6bd wrote

Yea you’re right everyone should be able to damage someone else’s property with 0 repercussions.

No one said they "should" be able to, but they are able to. If you want to put yourself in legal peril over an auto insurance claim, have at it, Punisher.
