Go to where the apartments you’re interested in are. Walk around the neighborhood. Walk to and from the train station and pay attention to surroundings. That’s the only way you’re going to tell if it makes you uncomfortable or not. Different people will have different tolerances for how dangerous a neighborhood is.
Having said all that, East Harlem has always been a shitty neighborhood and you might want to avoid it.

Sounds like you’re scared of Black folk, I’d just stay away and leave the good people of Harlem alone, they don’t need any more of that energy.

You’re the only one mentioning race. I’ve never visited the area - just asking a question. Thanks.

One thing I miss about the past is people owning up to their racism, nowadays they just use coded language and gaslight minorities.
Here’s a thought: don’t move to Harlem. We lost enough of our communities to the likes of yourself.

If you consider Harlem dangerous, it is best not to move there. Don't move into a neighborhood where the people make you uncomfortable.
