I don't think they necessarily need to be glass.

And I think you are overstating the likelihood of vandalism. People could also go around slashing every tire they see, and that doesn't happen, either.

That’s cause those tires belong to individuals, so if the owner of that car catches you slashing your tires you are probably gonna get your ass whooped. When it comes to public or semi-public property there’s no risk like that, hence why every single LinkNYC screen is shattered in certain neighborhoods
