“…Travelers heading to New York City will be able to choose from a new late-morning train operating Sunday through Friday that departs Albany-Renssalaer at 11:10 a.m., according to Amtrak’s website. It will stop at Hudson at 11:30 a.m., Rhinecliff at 11:54 a.m. and Poughkeepsie at 12:10 p.m. before arriving in New York City at the Moynihan Train Hall at 1:45 p.m., the website added.

A new daily evening train will leave from Albany-Renssalaer at 5:30 p.m. It will stop at Hudson at 5:53 p.m., Rhinecliff at 6:15 p.m. and Poughkeepsie at 6:30 p.m. before arriving in New York City at 8:05 p.m.

Northbound, a new train will depart the Moynihan Train Hall at 8:15 a.m. and stop at Poughkeepsie at 9:45 a.m., Rhinecliff at 10:01 a.m. and Hudson at 10:21 a.m. before terminating at Albany-Renssalaer at 10:47 a.m. according to Amtrak’s website.

The other train departs New York City from Sunday through Friday at 3:15 p.m. with stops at Poughkeepsie at 4:40 p.m., Rhinceliff at 4:55 p.m. and Hudson at 5:15 p.m. before terminating at Albany at 5:45 p.m.

The Empire State Passengers Association said this will increase the number of weekday Hudson Valley trains from 10 to 12 roundtrips and reduce sellouts on several northbound trains that extend beyond Albany-Rensselaer. The association added it’s often hard to find a seat on an Amtrak train in the Hudson Valley on Fridays and Sundays and sometimes on Thursdays….”

I do the Rhinecliff to NYC trip often and it's honestly one of the best traveling experiences I've had in the US. The seats are comfortable, it's clean, the conductors are friendly and the views are great. The WiFi is pretty reliable and I get some work done. Then you arrive in Moynihan which is beautiful (or you get the wrong set of stairs and come up in Penn Station which is a hellhole). I wish the cafe was open more though as it's pretty much closed 9/10 trips. Keep up the good work, Amtrak.

Would be better to book asap or wait till last min for fares to drop if you only have a weeks notice? Can never gauge Amtrak pricing….

I book as soon as I can as some trains do fill up. There are some price swings but I've not figured out how to game it yet.

Is it still as expensive as flying?
