Just send it to the address on the id. Nice of you to do that

If there is a bankcard in there you can take it to the nearest branch and they'll contact the owner.

Seems more trustworthy than dropping it in the mailbox.

Look at ID and see if you can find them on social media. If not mail it to the address.

I was contacted by someone on FB Messenger that did the same. Was very nice to get it within hours of losing it.

I was found on LinkedIn! Same situation, got it back the next day.

I never thought of LinkedIn for that but that’s actually probably the safest bet

I never understand the purpose of these posts... if there is an ID, contact the rightful owner via social media. You can even find their phone number on whitepages.com in some instances.

I don't understand any 'found item' post on here with the assumption the whole word uses this stupid website.

Thatsthem.com works better than whitepages as it lists cell phone numbers for some people. I think it uses data breaches to compile them.

Or mail it to them, or drop it off at the closest precinct, or the closest bank branch for the cc the owner has.

Just drop it in the mail, and USPS will do the work for you.

And what if there isnt an ID? Here’s a person who’s trying to help another person find their wallet—just let it be Yorkville!

There is an ID. If there weren't, I could understand.

Show the CC just so I can make sure

Show this guy the front. I need to see the back.

Or take it to any fancy hotel bar. Buy a nice cocktail and leave a sizeable tip, then "accidentally" leave the wallet behind.

They'll go out of their way to track down the real owner for you.

Ah, crap. I'm on the wrong sub again.

allMightyMostHigh t1_iyxhqp0 wrote

Yea literally a couple bucks for stamps and an envelope and mail just the cards and say if they want the wallet to call you because that would cost more to ship. They will probably already cancel the credit cards anyway even if you give it back because anyone you can take a picture of it.

photochic1124 t1_iyxrr11 wrote

You can just drop the whole wallet in a mailbox and USPS will mail it for you

and you think so because? who’s paying for the postage to mail it? what does the postal service have to do with the DMV?

If the credit card is fron a bank, you can drop it off at one their branches and they'll contact the owner. Or if there's ID, you can take it to the address's nearest police precinct and have the police return it, if you don't want to show up to some stranger's home to do it yourself. I've done both for a card I found on 6th Ave and an ID I found by the 34th street Macy's.

I would go to the bank or the nearest police precinct.
