Yale’s IT department got caught a while back for skimming millions off the top. I wonder how much unchecked fraud goes on in these universities tbh. Feels shitty that they make students take on massive debt so administrators (who already have bloated salaries) can commit financial crimes.

The M/WBE program is a freaking scam. This kind of thing happens all the time and it's way too easy. Nobody audits these programs! There's no point in doing this if the government agencies administering the program can't even verify which businesses are real.

So true. We have one in our state that even gives benefits to bisexuals. Like who is out there checking on if business owners are legitimately bisexual or not? Its not outright fraud but it is obviously political optics gone stupid.

The administrators commit fraud right out in the open with how ridiculously overpaid they are. Why would they worry about skimming off the top when their entire existence is piggybacking on the efforts of actual educators and professors at the expense of students? It’s all the same

The fact that these grants were awarded with minimal oversight in the first place is absurd. Lots of graft perpetrated against taxpayers using these ridiculous government handouts

I always wonder the same thing. With that being said, maybe it's different at private school, but why is everyone getting the impression that admins are overpaid? I've spoken to many, including directors, and they all tell me they could be making way more in industry. Faculty as well. You go on /r/academia , they'll go off on how terrible their pay is.

Correct. There is lax oversight, almost no real audits and the only qualification is 50% stake held by people who qualify in the category, with zero care for how diverse the actual company is. People will find wives or figurehead "owners" to put on paperwork to snag contracts, to the detriment of actual minority and women owned businesses.

Not surprising given she learned from the best. NYU are scumbags.

She's going to jail and ruined her own life. It only pays if you don't get nailed to the wall. Everyone dumb enough to commit these crimes thinks they are too smart to get caught.

There's a big difference between rank and file administrators and upper-level administrators. Most people do not make this distinction when discussing how overpaid administrators are.

Many of Columbia's executives, for instance, used to come from the for-profit sector (one of them even used to work in for-profit higher ed as general counsel for Kaplan University). These executives have different expectations about compensation than career higher ed administrators.

Two…nay, THREE months in tennis prison for her. No one is above the law (unless they cut the right politicos in on the action), blah blah blah.
