with all due respect, even if one might opt out that probably never ever happens - at the head of the queue with security all around and me whining, excuse me, i don't agree - what are they going to do, tag me for a body cavity search or miss my flight? there's a huge amount of intimidation and coercion at play.

In theory you could just opt out on the spot. The agent will turn off the camera and just check your ID like usual and you wouldn’t be treated differently. But I agree no one knows what’s gonna happen sometimes it’s just easier if you comply

To further give you some peace of mind, TSA does not store any photos or facial data they scan. They are not building any facial database to track you down. The sole purpose is to determine if you look the same as the photo on your ID on the spot.
