Yearly is the only way I can see it making sense.

I might be an idiot here, but at $205 for the year, why wouldn’t you just buy a bike?

Rain. Flats. Locks. Choice of multiple ways of transport in a day. Theft. Spontaneity. Etc.

I bike a lot — road bike, cargo bike for transporting kids, beat-up steel frame commuter bike — and still find citibike invaluable for commutes and quick rides as needed.

People dont have space to keep a bike inside of their apartment, if you keep it outside it WILL get stolen or ateast get its wheels stripped off.

I have a bike but use Citibike when I'm going out drinking or taking some other mode of transport when I don't want to worry about bringing it on the subway/ferry. 205 for a year is worth it for distances when I don't have my bike and the walk is a longer time than I'd like.

Bike maintenance over a year will usually cost more than that, especially if you ride in all weather. The salt and slush of winter destroys bikes, so it's nice to be able to ride through that and not worry about repairs. Plus it can't get stolen.

I only bike home from work, so the rental is really easy for me. $205 might seem like a lot, but it's cheaper than subway. I save $$$ in subway costs over a year. So I guess it depends on your baseline.

And I have no plans to add a $200 a year subscription (plus additional costs) to my life.
