Single ride at $4.50 now—only a 50 cent increase but I have it say that’s a psychological barrier that is probably going to make me use these things a lot less.

I feel like all the people getting 2 years free of Lyft pink all access with the CSR may have had a effect making it expensive for everyone else

Insane pricing.

For comparison, €5 gets you the 24-hour pass in Paris

The city needs to eminent domain this and make it free

I assume it is partially that and maybe also partially reduced pricing for low income folks. Don't know how many people fit into those two groups, though, relative to the overall size of the user base.

Still, make it cheap for too many people and you have to make it expensive for someone else.

I only bike home from work, so the rental is really easy for me. $205 might seem like a lot, but it's cheaper than subway. I save $$$ in subway costs over a year. So I guess it depends on your baseline.

I have a bike but use Citibike when I'm going out drinking or taking some other mode of transport when I don't want to worry about bringing it on the subway/ferry. 205 for a year is worth it for distances when I don't have my bike and the walk is a longer time than I'd like.

I get they want to push people to go annual but IMO the single use rides should be as cheap as the subway for the folks who maybe only need to ride every now and again. Someone taking a bike over say calling a FHV is a good thing. Also nice if your subway commute on one day goes to shit due to an incident, you can simply take a bike instead for the same price. More options are better! CitiBike has so much more potential but it's being gimped by many factors such as Lyft's greed, the city choosing not to subsidize it, and ConEd not working with Lyft to have docks that charge ebikes. Expansion also needs to speed up, and we need way more ebikes.

Bike maintenance over a year will usually cost more than that, especially if you ride in all weather. The salt and slush of winter destroys bikes, so it's nice to be able to ride through that and not worry about repairs. Plus it can't get stolen.

It doesn't have to but if the program doesn't have enough funding or if it is saddled with a bunch of unreasonable mandates (both things that happen to government run programs), it could wind up being terrible.

I would also say, if it were to ever be city run, why make it free? I'd rather they keep it affordable and focus on improving service quality.

A pity Lyft doesn’t lower the annual cost in an attempt to enlarge the pie.

Just recently canceled my annual membership. The bike quality has degraded so hard over the past year. Almost every bike I checked out as of late had some issue ranging from cut up seats, messed up brakes, dented/banged up/defaced frame, and most annoyingly, just being super hard to pedal and get up to a decent speed without exerting a ton of effort (when I did occasionally get a “good” bike, the difference in ride quality was night and day)

Plus 9 times out of 10 it took attempting several different bikes before I was even able to undock.
