Not necessarily true, I've lost 4 wallets in NYC, 3 came back.

You may have a serious wallet retaining issue

Used to, it's been a long time since I lost one. but also, NYers were the reason I got those 3 back. I've returned a few myself. Keeps the karma flowing. Know what I mean?

Getting your wallet back doesn’t mean the cards weren’t copied beforehand. The naïveté of not canceling your cards is hilarious to me. It can take months to fight a debit card fraud claim in the best case.

What do you think your bank will say when you told them you lost your wallet, didn’t report your card as missing, received it back, and STILL took no action.

Puerile.

I never said anything about not cancelling cards, just that the wallet may perhaps return, and in my case more often than not, it was returned. Cards can be locked too, so there's that, but you do you, and presume all you want, think the worst of human nature, see how that works for you long term. Best of luck.

This is NYC. I lost a refillable MetroCard and the person who found it did $80 in trips in one day. People will take every cent from you before you can blink.

Sure, I’m a dirtbag, that’s why I cynically expect the same in others. /s
