It doesn't appear to have looked like that for some time though. ActionKid has been through there a few times since 2019 to see how it has aged.

The original work looks so nice. It’s a shame people chose to ruin it.

Yes, I suddenly remembered having taken this video after I saw it had been painted over.. thought it was interesting to go back and see it right after the murals were completed.

I've only been as far up there to 175th stop. Why is this tunnel so long and what's the points it's connecting?

I remember another stop that had to take an elevator uo to the exit, and some sort of lanterns and small bridges in the station to cross over tracks that was strange having never been at that station before. Upper West Side foreign to me.

Wow very interesting. Didn't realize how deep and hilly it is uptown. The elevators at the time was operated by a person which was wild, but awhile ago so not sure if that's still the case.

Yeah I regularly use the elevator at the 181a train to get between overlook terrace and ft Washington Ave. This tunnel goes from Broadway to st Nick, and there is an elevator down to the train from st. Nick.

That’s the 1 at 168th, a few stops south of here.

The pictures of that station from when it opened had these huge chandeliers. Very cool.

They hung from the circle in the ceiling here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/168th_Street_station_(New_York_City_Subway)#/media/File%3A168th_Street_IRT_Broadway_2.JPG

Yes! I remember that station with the lights and little bridges when we had to disembark from the A train and get off at this stop. It was so strange at the time and reminded me of Phomtom of the Opera. Then the old fashioned elevator with the gate and person operating it. Very cool since lived in NYC all my life and never knew.

Was added to the National register of historical places, not surprising. They should have keep those original lights though, it was like a step back in time. (Although I do remember the station being pretty dark given it that errie feel).

Yea I didn’t realize they had refurbished it. It looks brighter and cleaner and a little bit soulless. It did have some creepy vibes though.
