Hi guys,

I currently work rotating 12 hour shifts. I make $100k base salary and around $130-150k with overtime depending on how much extra I want to work. I make a lot of money in my LCOL area (compared to what I used to make in engineering), and do enjoy having financial freedoms. However my rest days are frequently spent recovering for the next work day and dreading my next 3/4/5 day stretch, but I'm normally pretty happy on my days off and tolerate the work environment for the paycheck.

I recently interviewed and got offered a job making significantly less than I make now, but there are opportunities that allow me to move up, offer significantly more flexibility E.g.

  • 8 hour days

  • work from home option occasionally

  • 2 weeks paid vacation

  • tuition reimbursement (to finish my master's in Business or engineering)

As far as location goes, i'd go from the northeast to the south, I used to live here in the south and much preferred the people and activities available, but will be further from my family.

My fiancé wants me to take the job even though she will have to get a job (currently stays at home since my salary can support it) when she moves down here. She thinks I will be less stressed and have more time for my hobbies. I don't know how I feel about this logic. I think all jobs suck, and I hate my current job, but at least I get paid

TL;DR Should I risk a killer paycheck in hopes I will be happier or less stressed/overworked at a new job in an area I really like
