Need Advice - Job Change

Hi everyone,

So I recently got an offer from another employer that is $10/h more than what I am making right now + 20k/yr bonus. I put in my 2 weeks notice and my boss came to me and offer a pay raise of 7/h more than what I am currently making.

My question is whether or not I should stay with my current employer or move on? I like what I am doing right now and dont know what to expect with the new employer but I am confident that I will do well at either position.

Counter for $10 over if that is market rate. I am sure there was a reason for the new job in the first place.
You can put that new hire bonus to some good use.

Never stay in that situation. If you do, your boss will start looking for a replacement for you and let you go in a couple months once they have somebody, and then your new job offer is long gone.

Even if your employer lets you stay, there is a high risk you won't be considered for promotions/raises because you are a "flight risk" and have "one foot out the door already".

Where was that $7 a month ago, and how much of it would you have gotten during your annual review anyway?

Remember why you interviewed for the new job in the first place. Don't let comfort keep you somewhere you don't want to be.

Move on. Your current employer will never forgive you for the disloyalty. And in the long run you will make much, much more over the course of your career by moving every few years.

Move on, but be gratuitous and professional on the way out. Leave a big sappy farewell LinkedIn post and tag your boss. One month into your new job, send your boss an email about how what you learned helped prepare you so well for this bigger role.

Then, if your new job sucks, you can ask for your old one back. Lots of people boomerang.

I wasnt looking for a new job. The new employer cold calling me and we ended up having the interview over the phone. That 20k/yr bonus sounds really nice, thats what making it hard to decide. The rate is actually higher than the market rate, i didnt expect to get to that rate.

Absolutely take it. More money and a big bonus. You should be climbing the workforce latter like this every few years in order to progress professionally and financially. You deserve it.
