Basically my company didn't pay me for a full week of work and when I asked for explanation they said they implemented a new system and there must be a glitch. My work also union which I asked for help but after a month of back and forth still no resolution.

Should I ask for legal advise? I live in California.

Ask payroll if they want one last chance to fix it, and then file a wage claim.

I'd be inclined to put pressure on them to fix it...like it needs to be fixed by the time paychecks next come out or I'm filing a claim.

But I've never been in this situation myself. So I don't know how much you want to piss off your employer or not.

If they’re not paying you for your work, they’re not your employer they’re your slave master.

OP should tell his “employers” that they can either pay what they owe for work he already did immediately, or he can take a paid vacation for the amount of days he wasn’t paid for, or they can handle it in court. Those are the only reasonable options. Hell, OP should charge them fucking interest for every day late it is. They’re effectively giving themselves a loan with his money in the most charitable interpretation of their behavior.

Yeah, I'd be patient and let them fix it, but if it's been going on a month, they are out of line. Even if they can't fix the system issue, they can cut a check to fix the missing week.

If your Union representative isn’t helping there just be more to this than you are reporting.

California has very strict labor laws that are very pro labor. Tell the Union representative you will be filing a claim as outlined above. And politely ask they kick it up to someone who can help you immediately. It’s why you pay union dues.
