I have multiple debit cards because my financial institutions send them to me. Just because I'm sent something doesn't mean I have to use it.

I solely use credit for purchases as the fraud protections are vastly superior.

I solely use Fidelity/Schwab for ATM access as I can rest assured that any ATM fee will be reimbursed.

I use more than 2 banks for security/safety. I always want access to my money and if a card is stolen, I'm not screwed right out the gate. Also you can't always increase your withdrawal limit so it's easier just to pull from separate accounts.

I only use credit for purchases though.

I have my main checking account with Chase and only use the debit card for normal atm withdrawals.

I have a Schwab checking account that I use when I travel as they reimburse atm transaction fees which is handy for international travel.

Mind you no purchases are made on either card as I use credit cards for fraud protections and cashback/points

I have more than one bank / bank account and they all send them. I barely use one, and only for the occasional ATM withdraw.

There are a couple accounts that offer promotional interest rates if you use your debit card five or ten times in a month. It’s conceivable someone has multiple of these accounts.

Lot's of folks will have differing accounts for certain things. I have a primary checking, general savings, vacation savings, and emergency savings. I also have a shared checking with my partner that we dump house related money into for bills, mortgage etc. For general spending though, I tend to stick to credit and pay the balance off each month.

My husband and I had a joint checking account at bank A when we decided to try bank B. We planned to close Bank A after trying Bank B for a while. We never got around to closing Bank A. Some years later, I opened another at Bank C for the signup bonus. Had to wait 6 months for the bonus and never got around to closing that either.

I have multiple checking accounts for sign up bonuses. The debit cards sit in a drawer.
