Any spots within ~4 hours drive of the city that you’ve spent a weekend or a few days and loved it? Maybe a spot you’ve been wanting to hit?

Two places both not getting snow this winter.
I'll always say Jim Thorpe for weekend trips. It's such a cute little town, close to. Some great hiking and lakes if that's your thing.

Dc is a nice weekend, quick train ride too
Second this if you’re looking to visit another city.
DC, Baltimore, NYC, Boston, and the other random smaller cities in between are all only a few hours on Amtrak from 30th street. Gotta love the northeast corridor.
Lancaster is only an hour away by train too. I haven't been, but there's enough train frequency to make it an easy day trip.
I went to DC for a day and had a great time
DC has the added benefit of plenty of free museums
Finger Lakes or VA Wine Country (I'd recommend staying in Leesburg).
Getting to the Finger Lakes in 4 hours takes a miracle, a helicopter, or sustained 90mph+ speeds
It does take more than 4 hours, but the drive is much easier than the 95 corridor so I never mind it as much. Definitely one of my favorite places to visit!
I’ve also done the Catskills in about a 4 hour drive
Getting from Philadelphia to Ithaca can be done in four hours at normal speeds.
Second the finger lakes. It’s about 4 hours depending on which part you are going to and a relatively easy drive. There’s so much to do up there that it’ll honestly be hard to decide if it‘a just a few days!
Charlottesville area has enough wineries to many visits if you want to hit all of them. Beautiful mountain drive too.
It’s such a great getaway when it gets really hot and gross in the city too. Temperatures are always 10-20 degrees cooler up there and the lakes are a perfect gate away for a week. The wine is top notch, people are friendly, and it’s gorgeous scenery wise.
Leesburg is adorable. Eat at Shoes
new hope/lambertville
This is a great day trip, especially if you bring a bike. I would park in Washington Crossing thought because the parking is free.
Yep! It's a great, easy, safe bike ride up the towpath. I did it last summer on a date and had dinner in lambertville. We parked down in Washington's crossing I like you said. It was excellent. The biking may be better in warmer weather though
There are a few bike shops you can rent from as well. One is right next to the tow path.
I ended up in new hope completely by accident a few weeks ago and it really is one of the loveliest towns I've been to.
Ricketts Glen State park for the waterfalls, I’ve only done the 2.5hr drive for a day trip but could easily find other hiking in the area.
If you want to go a bit more rustic, World’s End State Park has beautiful rustic cabins on a river with amazing hikes.
Great weekend hiking loop in that area with a view!
The Loyalsock Trail? That scenic overlook is stunning.
Plus Forksville has a cheesesteak place that was on the cover of the Inquirer recently.
Big Mike’s! Nice dude, he used to live in point breeze way BITD.

Cape May!
Not sure when you're planning this for, but Baltimore Inner Harbor is fun in spring/summer. I love the water taxi.
Ooh sounds fun! What kinda stuff do you do in that area?
We took the water taxi around the harbor and got off at random stops, walked around, got good ice cream. Went to the aquarium and looked at the boats. There are some great restaurants and historical stuff.
American Visionary Art Museum very cool place to spend an afternoon.
This! It's a must. Like nothing else. Really!

Catskills
Plus all the places in the Hudson river valley.
beacon is a great place to hang out for a weekend. dia: beacon, storm king, lots of nice shops and restaurants and closer than kingston or hudson
That's mainly what I was thinking. Such an incredible place.
Second storm king. Great breweries as well. Lots of hiking. Big Pink is on the list.
love the southern catskills especially- calicoon, narrowsburg, roscoe, livingston manor
I've heard great things about the city or town of Lancaster. I want to take a train trip there one weekend soon.
Downtown is super cool. It reminds me of a small Philly.
Lititz, PA, right outside of lancaster is also a very cool and cute little town, lots of boutiques and breweries. Perfect for a short weekend trip.
Came here to say Lancaster. Walkable, affordable, tons of charming architecture, cool restaurants and bars. And the surrounding countryside has great farm stands, dairy products, wineries etc.
Me again. I just heard about a place in dt Lancaster called Tellus360 that has some fun upcoming events, including a Pretty in Pink 80s Prom Night on April 1.

Yeah, good food and night boutiques. A great place to walk around.
Harpers Ferry, West Virginia!!!!
+1 for this recommendation, especially if you’re a history fan. It’s such a scenic area and the town has a lot of cool stuff as well.
Antietam is also a short drive away which is one of the best-preserved Civil War battlefields.
I spent my childhood going to Gettysburg and I have no idea why my civil war buff grandfather never took us to Antietam, it's basically the same distance. I'm gonna have to make a drive this spring

If you like craft beer, Richmond is a great weekend trip, several world class breweries, some history, a nice art museum. Scotts addition is the main brewery/nightlife area
5 hours by amtrak, 2 to dc, 1hour engine swap in dc, 2 hours to Richmond.
Driving is highly variable, my record is 3.5 hours, but its been over 6 as well.
Unfortunately a driving city, so prepare to uber a bunch.
Finger Lakes region in NY state. The state park at Watkins Glen and the Corning Museum of Glass. Yep, don't sleep on the Corning Museum of Glass... crazy good and under the radar.
Totally agree with this rec - went with my girlfriends last summer and was initially meh on the idea.... Absolutely loved the Corning Museum of Glass and will definitely go back! For $14 I was able to sandblast a personalized wine glass - such a unique and inexpensive experience!
Head down Delaware and stay at one of the beach towns. They are really cute and lovely especially in off season.
We love spending a long weekend in Rehoboth around this time of year. Most of the shops and restaurants are open, but it’s not packed.
this is a good one, my parents live down there and i love visiting
I second VA wine country and/or Shenandoah National Park. Tons of rentals, some of which are remote/in the mountains that you need 4WD to get to the property (or sometimes the owner will haul you and your stuff in their 4WD!)
do you have any specific suggestions on where to stay? thanks!
I've stayed in one of the cabins in the national park at Shenandoah and they're pretty bare bones but not run down, just very basic. The national park is easy to hike and there's lots to do around there. It's a bit touristy but not too far away, about 15 minutes drive are the Luray caverns, they're really cool to see in person and they have a kick ass hedge maze too!
Had a lovely time in Hudson, NY a few weeks ago. We visited Olana Estate, ate in some excellent restaurants, skied, shopped, all only 3.5 hrs away!
Jim Thorpe/Poconos is good.

Underrated, imho, is Atlantic City. Hard Rock casino is dope, waking up, grabbing a starbucks and walking out to the beach is a great way to start the morning. Walk the boards for a looong time. Just walk. Come back, crack a drink or visit Landshark Bar & Grill, its got a wood cabin vibe on the beach, good for day drinking. At night the boardwalk isn't too bad, can definitely walk up to Ocean Casino or Resorts to change things up, play $20 here, $20 bucks there on slots. I don't gamble but don't mind vibin and riding the wave. I stopped down for a few nights the last 2 years and honestly had a blast. Lounge Bar in Hard Rock is great, live music, I met some other people doing basically the same thing. Most first timers too.
>Hard Rock casino
I like the Hard Rock because it's not a labyrinth old style casino designed to keep you wandering inside.
It feels more like a convention center with gambling. It's easy to pass through naturally.
Scranton is an underrated place to visit. Downtown is very walkable and has some nice restaurants and the impressive “Electric City” sign. Steamtown National Historic Site, close to downtown, is a great indoor/outdoor museum dedicated to the the history of trains. Nextdoor to it is the Electric City Trolley Museum, which is also great. The Lackawanna Coal Mine is also nearby and is a fun and interesting place to tour.
Montauk, New Haven, Rehoboth, Chesapeake Bay
Surprised me that Montauk is within 4 hours of philly. Noice!
Depends on NYC traffic soooooo
St. Michael’s Maryland
Ricketts Glen State Park is pretty amazing if you’re into nature and, specifically, waterfalls. One of the coolest nature-type getaways I’ve had within the state of Pennsylvania.
Canadensis, PA- go rent a cabin and some quads... enjoy the fresh air
The finger lakes, Ithaca specifically
Finger Lakes area - Ithaca, Watkins Glen, etc.. More of a summer thing.
We love spending time in NEPA! About 2.5 hours from Philly, north of the Poconos so it’s not touristy. Good hikes, decent food and breweries, antiquing.
Lancaster!
Yeah. DC is a great visit for a long weekend. Museums typically aren't open on Mondays.
clocking in at just around a 4 hour drive you can get to some of the Finger Lakes in NY. We had a blast staying on the south end of Seneca Lake. Hiking and wine tastings are the prime activities. If that’s appealing I’d definitely check it out
Catskills is usually my go to. It’s great in all seasons. Really enjoy the relaxing mountain vibe up there, there’s great restaurants and breweries, it’s got beautiful scenery and the people are all super nice. Great change of pace to get away from the city.
New York, DC, Baltimore. If you ski/snowboard. Poconos, the mountains of PA or NY are also great options. If you’re waiting until the summer, any of the many beaches of NJ, DE, or MD.
Baltimore
Richmond. It's 5 hours by train but a great city.
I always wanted to do a weekend trip to Centralia/central PA abandoned spots. I wanna Go in the fall, go to a diner and go explore
Going to rehoboth beach this weekend
I don’t like Cape May in the summer because it’s way too crowded, but it’s nice in April/May. Obviously, too cold to go in the water. But, most of the shops and restaurants are open on the weekends, starting with Easter weekend. Most of the museums and touristy stuff is open and Hotel rates aren’t too bad that time of year either.
Grasonville, MD is nice and chill and low key in the summer ... you'll have a number of great seafood restaurants at your disposal and you're right on the water
NYC
Gettysburg . Did a weekend years ago. Toured a few museums, went to the battlefield. It was great . I would love to go back
The inn at Montchain Village and Spa. Less than an hour away from the city

I’m heading back to Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown next weekend it’s about 2-2.5 hours away and has a lot of things to do. Tarrytown has the Jazz Forum has performances from Fridays-Sundays. I’m going to the one next Friday. I’m super excited. A weekend alone.

If you're into Hiking, check out Seneca Rocks, WV. Lots of good hiking around there and not far from Spruce Knob, highest point in WV.

Jim Thorpe? Apparently it’s the Switzerland of Pennsylvania.
