Objectively they should be able to host a party if they want, it’s their right.

But this is probably for the best because people are assholes, and especially drunk sports fans. Fuck you people who make this impossible.

That said, go birds.

They usually have a block party where the entire block is closed off and they get a traveling bar they put on the street. I’m a little sad even though I’m an eagles fan I enjoy there presence.

In a civilized world, Eagles fans would go party with them and help dissuade the assholes. Because it’s just a fucking sports games. But here we are.

Was the issue that ticket resellers bought up all the tickets, or that there was some sort of subversion by eagles fans?

That is correct. I think they are also not wanting every person from KC to travel there considering how small it is. I am from KC and went down there for a few playoffs games while I was living in the city still. It's tiny and filled with locals.

15

rufiooooooooooo t1_j7kj6cb wrote

I’m sure it’s a concern for all of the above. While a flood of KC fans seems definite there’s also the possibility of unruly Eagles fans. Either way it’s a shame. Regardless.. Go Birds

Yeah. Honestly after a couple of past experiences involving Philadelphia sports fans I don't really want to be in that particular place after the game.

There are people from Kansas City living in Philadelphia.

4

nucleosome t1_j7lwnoe wrote

Yeah, I guess I can see how you could interpret it that way. I meant people living in Philly but from KC who want to watch the game might want to come down to that bar. However, the regulars I have met there tend to be Philly locals who are diehard Chiefs fans. They all live right in the neighborhood. It's such a cool little microcosm.

3

Uncanny_Realization t1_j7kqiq0 wrote

Leave that much money on the table? No. I am sure they have enough regulars to fill their establishment and make big bucks.

5

phoenix762 t1_j7k67p7 wrote

Oh, that’s good, it would be a shame the regular people would be screwed because of this craziness.

5

Wu-Tang_Killa_Bees t1_j7mcyfx wrote

For sure. I think they are regularly very packed, so filling the bar to capacity with regulars will be easy

3

uptown_gargoyle t1_j7id8bl wrote

I don't understand what's being reported on. Are they saying Eagles fans purposely bought out all the tickets in order to start trouble and/or suppress Chiefs fans' celebrations?

Yeah I’m a little confused too, I hadn’t heard of this bar until last weeks when they started getting publicity for being a bar in Philly that was a place for someone who doesn’t root for the eagles to watch games. Isn’t it possible that a bump in interest in the bar was mostly from people who wanted to watch the game and either support the chief’s or support a different team entirely and just don’t want to be surrounded by eagles fans that day?

Wasn’t getting a bump in patronage exactly why they started promoting their bar the last few weeks? Maybe this article is leaving out key details to why the ticket sales/requests seemed nefarious.

Anyway I hope no one has threatened these folks or done anything nefarious and they are just being paranoid/ extra cautious.

Anyway, go birds.

My guess is they got inundated with reservations and then PD told them to maybe keep it quiet in case the Eagles lose. I know it's a dive, but I wouldn't want to be a Chiefs bar if we somehow lose this one.

From the prices l've looked at $25 is super cheap considering they're also providing food. Places l've looked at start at $50 for jist the entrance and many bars in the city are setting $60-70 minimum per person if they want to watch at a bar.

Alright. I'm a Philly expat. We have some Philly spots, including a big sports bar that has a dedicated Philly 2nd floor area for when the birds play. They are reserving it for Philly fans for the Superbowl and no one is going to cause a scene about it. We jabber jaw, we go tit for tat. We have our little differences, but buying out another team's fan bar for their Superbowl, causing a scene at their bar, or being violent is just classless as hell.

Let them enjoy the game in their spot, don't be dicks. Go birds.

stanleytuccimane t1_j7k3br4 wrote

But they don’t even know that Eagles fans bought out the bar, they just said it wasn’t regulars. I’m sure some shithead Eagles fans were trying to get in there, but the bar had a lot of publicity recently, it could be a lot of new, younger patrons also.

Sounds like you clearly don't know any "real" Eagles fans then.

The word in the hospitality industry that NFL "fans" are a whole different sports crowd from, let's say, soccer (and not in the best way).

Rittenhouse Antichrist - (love your name) - from someone in the industry over 30 years, I can tell you that NFL fans can be pretty bad, but… hands down, hockey fans are the worst! There’s just not the large numbers of them, in any city, as there are football fans. But if say, the Flyers or the Rangers were in the Stanley Cup finals, you would see how ugly it can get! 😮😁

3

porkchameleon t1_j7l60m1 wrote

(I live to... satisfy, thank you).

Come to think of it - I don't think I ever hung out with proper hockey fans, but I also lost all interest in watching the sport (along with basketball) about 25 years ago.

Bigmlittlej t1_j7rsxem wrote

I hear ya’. Hockey is a boring watch - on TV, and the NBA has gone to shit, though I still watch some. Oh, and I think “proper hockey fans” is the ultimate oxymoron. 😆 Give me the NFL, college football and basketball!

Idk, I think it's kinda cool we're the last city that does provincialism in sports. The diffuse and impossible to detect nature of community in the United States has created an equally diffused and wishy wash sports culture in every major American city except for here and sometimes that lends itself to dumb violent shit but you gotta take the good with the bad. It's fun to think that no matter our differences we all go hard for Philly sports.

This isn't violent, it's just annoying to the small Chiefs fanbase in Philly so to that end it's honestly kind of funny. Go birds.

Nowhere in the article did it say Eagles fans bought the tickets. Relax people. Could be chiefs fans from all over the city and burbs, and he was upset it wasnt his handful of regulars.

Rather then it becoming a big block party where bad shit can happen, he will probably close the bar for a "special event"

I live nearby. It's a typical South Philly old man dive bar. A guy on my block in his late 50s is a regular. He's South Philly born and raised usually wearing Chiefs gear. It's all South Philly guys from the neighborhood who've been going here for decades and are all Chiefs fans because of this bar. Their only connection to the Chiefs is the bar. They root for all other Philly teams. It's like an odd little social club.

The Baltimore Eagles bar (Magerks) is a cool place for Eagles fans to hang generally. But during non game times, I have seen a good amount of Ravens fans. So yeah, just a bar. No idea about Kansas City MLB or NHL, but Magerks plays all Philly games so it’s busy enough.

I’ve been to the green parrot in Fort Lauderdale for an eagles game and always wondered what the place was like on non eagles days, weeks, months.

A friend of mine said that his friend owns a bar in center city and a couple of browns fans asked if they could make it a browns bar for football games. He said yea and apparently there’s a browns bar in center city now and it’s been great for his business. I guess that’s how it works. There are transplants just about everywhere, so…
