When my parents owned their chinese restaurant, sesame chicken was just a non spicy general tsos chicken with sesame seeds.

xing ying on somerset and aramingo. delivery used to get to me <15 min from the call regularly and super cheap.

Chengdu Famous in west. They have the best American Chinese food I've had in Philadelphia, and an extensive and delicious authentic Chinese menu.

It's really the best Chinese restaurant I've been to aside from when I lived in China.

Not in the city but 5 min outside the city is Jasmine’s Asian Bistro. Best I’ve had.

the delivery dude was always so gracious too. I mean i took care of him for being so fast, but he wouldn't let me screen door slam while bowing and saying thank you over and over. best dude

No, it's mostly a product of Chinese American immigrants and didn't really make it's way back to China. Except for the very large and international cities, China doesn't really have a tradition of eating food from other cultures.

I found one Chinese American restaurant when I lived there, and it was in Shanghai which is probably the most international Chinese city. It was in a neighborhood that's very popular with American and European expats, so mainlanders were certainly not their target demographic.

my fav: China Inn in West Philly. some of the best fake meat options i’ve had as a meat eat (and yes, mimicking deep fried chicken chunks is among the easier meats to fake but still so many places do it poorly)

China King on Cheltenham Ave in East Oak Lane is pretty good for that and a whole bunch of other American Chinese dishes..
