I have a septa card I got in 2020, it expires in November of this year. Over time it’s gotten pretty beat up and now whenever I try to take the subway it doesn’t work. I need to get a new one but I still have funds on my current card. Does anyone know if I can transfer the funds to the new card? I’ve heard rumors that you can do this but I have no idea how it even works. I emailed septa earlier but they haven’t gotten back to me so I was wondering if anyone here knows anything

Yup! Get a new Key. Log in to the Septa Key website and register both cards. Then, under Card Options, claim the old one as lost/stolen/damaged. Once it's registered and hotlisted, you can transfer the funds to the new card.

This "hotlist" is the quickest way I've found to transfer funds.

They also have an option that explicitly says "expiring card" now, to transfer funds over.

They make this very very easy, I lose my card like once a month and am very grateful it’s such a simple process

do you have to pay to get a new card?

I think it’s like a couple bucks that get refunded if you register it

Or you can go to a station where a worker is(suburban or Jefferson) and they can do it for you.

I just did this a few weeks ago and it was crazy simple.

Due to inexplicable issues I've had with the website and the fact that you'll get the new Key Card immediately, this is what I do. They require you put maybe $5 on the card, but its there for you to use once the transaction is done.

If it's registered on septa key, its an easy process. Add new card, report previous card expired/lost and transfer balance.

If the numbers have worn off so you can't register it, i think they can transfer balance for you at septa hq 1234 market, unsure of the hours.

Be sure to register your new card! https://www.septakey.org/
