TIL there are flashlight enthusiasts. God I love people's niche interests.

Lol r/flashlight is the real deal. There's a lot of great stuff on there to get started and get an idea of how powerful some of these tiny handheld fuckers can get. It's addicting to have a fucking lightsaber in your hand

It’s an important tool in the advent of a home in vision at night time. I know I have my light and pistol ready every night at bed time

Haha that's awesome. Maybe a bit overpowered for my needs but I'm having fun looking at their stuff.

Pretty cool people that run that place. You're right, those things are not toys. Not sure if they're still up, but there were some youtube videos of guys using their products out in the desert "somewhere"

Maybe LL Bean or REI?

Leempo OP t1_itz7mzr wrote

I was recently at an LL Bean and didn't see much, I'll definitely have a look at REI though for sure, thanks

There is a lot that REI doesn't carry. If the flashlight manufacturer makes flashlights for guns or other gun-related gear, they won't carry it.

goldfinch_eggs t1_iu5appl wrote

What an odd policy.

2

OccasionallyImmortal t1_iu6ii5g wrote

They're anti-gun and presumably they consider this guilt by association. It is silly as flashlights on/for guns help people clearly identify someone and avoid accidental shootings.

REI, Bass Pro Shops, Cabella’s would be a good start, but they don’t have a lot of good ones. Some of the tactical supply places that serve law enforcement and gun shops will have some, but likely only carry a handful of brands. I’d call around before making a trip. r/flashlights might have some ideas too.

xander_man t1_iu0esx3 wrote

For what it's worth if you're looking for a light for serious use, those brands are the only ones you'd really want to consider.

Go to a gun store. Most of them carry high quality high lumen stuff meant to be mounted on rifle, meaning the electronics are strong enough to handle recoil and not fall apart.

Leempo OP t1_iu1samd wrote

This is a good idea actually, thank you for that lol

jdgsr t1_iu3bd0q wrote

Yeah most of the gun stores should have some streamlight and surefire handheld products in stock.

I've noticed auto part stores have strangely large flashlight selections. Not a hobbyist so I've no idea if they're high-end or just cheap crap, but they probably list their inventory on their websites. I'm thinking the chains like autozone, pep boys, etc.

dewey454 t1_itzrb6j wrote

You should check out facility suppliers like Grainger or Graybar.

Linkstas t1_itzzx6b wrote

Bass pro. Look for tactical lights like streamlight or if you want the best Surefire

I think Streamlight is in the Greater Philly area, right?

I think you're mostly stuck with online sales. It's a pretty niche market. Have you checked out Emisar before? They ship from China but it's a pretty smooth process.
