My boyfriend (M25) & I (F24) moved to south philly from chicago a few months ago & are finding it hard to meet people our age. We drink & smoke and all the bars around us seem to have an older crowd. Where do all the 20 something's go to hang out in south philly? (We're near 16th & Snyder)

My boyfriend goes to rutgers, I work remote & joined a local choir group, but we are finding that most people in those circles are older than us & take themselves a bit too seriously. If you're around our age, like to drink/smoke, don't take life too seriously, and just wanna goof off, DM me!

Lucky 13, Bonnies, Tap Room, Fountain Porter, Pub on East Passyunk, Garage, Ray’s Happy Birthday, Triangle Tavern, 12 Steps, The Dive Bar, Locust Bar, and Dirty Franks is where I spent most of my 20’s in South Philly. There’s always Fishtown if you want a younger crowd too.

I had a lot of luck joining a bocce league in my mid 20s. I later joined a very casual running group and met my best friends who are now my extended family well into my 30s. There’s a walking group for women called “Philly girls who walk” which looks pretty cool. I’d also suggest taking a class like ones offered at Philly cheese school; worst case scenario you learn about cheese!

I will say most of the running groups get beers after 😏 but that is a good point! They can save these for their late 20s when the hangovers get worse lol

12 steps down has mixed age groups, if you like karaoke go on Tuesdays as the age range trends younger that night.

The kickball leagues are fun! I think it’s called Hey Day now.

I met a bunch of great friends this way. We would usually go to the bar afterwards so at the very least you’ll find some new spots to go to.

There are some cool spots West of Broad in South Philly. There are also some shitholes full of dead-enders as well.

Spots to Try:

Second District

South House

ARS (Though it does skew to a more family crowd)

South Philly Taproom

La Lorna

Black Cat

Taproom on 19th

Jiminy Cricket's

The Republican (RIP)

Spots to Avoid:

The Station

SK Bar

17 Snyder Chinese

Hennessy (I like this spot but, might not be what you're looking for)

624 Lounge (I think this was shut down by L&I)

Cool to hear from someone else from Chicago! We love music but specifically really enjoy hip-hop & r&b, not sure where those kind of shows tend to happen

That would make much more sense and also give them many more socialization options than cigarette smoking..
