Jean Georges is apparently not worth the price, FYI. I haven't been to that one but that seems to be the consensus. I've had his food at a bunch of 'highly touted' places in NYC and it blows.

Vernick fish is good but not as good as the other Vernick.

I have no idea how these places work in terms of reservations around the holidays but I suspect it may be difficult to get one. If you're looking for other upscale, also consider laurel or friday saturday sunday. Or the aforementioned Vernick.

Rittenhouse area is nice during Christmas, but if you want to do something a little less typical head to East Passyunk and have dinner at Le Virtu, Laurel, Messina, Townsend or Irwin's and walk over 'the miracle on south 13th street' afterward to enjoy the lights (pack a road soda for the walk or grab one at the East Passyunk Bottle Shop).

Ice skating at Dillworth or River Rink is always a good addition

I like Dilworth better, but river rink has more fun stuff to do around it (firepits, ferris wheel, christmas market).

Plus if you're a blue cross card holder you get free skate rentals.

Free ice time too. My wife and I own our own skates so River Rink is just free and easy for us. You're right, lots more cool stuff around but also Dilworth is next to the village and the light show at City Hall
