Gotta control the rats somehow.

No but for real this is super wholesome. Love my cat, great super chill house companion. Best room mate ever despite having to clean his poop up all the time

You'll never see a mouse again unless it's dead or partially dead. Cats will find a mouse (or bugs, in my experience) before you do.

A classic saying goes, "Dogs protect you from what you CAN see. Cats protect you from what you CAN'T see."

My cat Jean Luc is a stray from West Philly. He is the best mouse / cockroach murderer I have ever met. He is also my protector. For the first several weeks after our recent move, he posted up at various spots in the house and bed as my watch-cat. ๐Ÿ–ค

Shout out to paws, where we adopted our loveable menaces a few years back. And appreciation for the outdoor kitty who sits outside having conversations with one of our cats through the back door. She volunteered for backyard pest management and has been doing a great job

I love dogs too but man, my cat really is the best. Heโ€™s cool living in a small apartment, doesnโ€™t require walking and bathroom breaks in shitty weather, is ok with being left alone for hours at a time, and acts as a space heater on cold winter nights. He can be a little asshole at times but heโ€™s MY little asshole.

Or Covid for that matter. Are people naming their pets Whooping Cough and Influenza too?

That just reminded me of something. My dad was an ob/gyn and onetime he came home after delivering a baby and said the woman wanted to name her child Placenta. He begged her not to. Not sure if there is a middle aged Placenta out there somewhere, poor thing.

i got a cat in July 2020. had a mouse problem that ended in October of 2020.

the pride and joy in a cat's face when they've successfully hunted their prey is priceless.

So true.

Sometimes I walk from East Passyunk up to Center City and I shit you not there are days I count more cats looking out front windows than humans. Also just adopted a two year old of my own this last month!

Iโ€™m actually a little surprised itโ€™s not NYC, given that cat ownership tends to correlate with city density + northern climates.

But Philly being high on the list isnโ€™t surprising at all!

Toxoplasmosis, a single-celled parasite that can be transmitted from cats to humans, encourages aggressive and belligerent behaviors in human beings. Maybe that's why Philly can be so pissed off at times
