Haven’t been in a while, but I remember Memphis Taproom having good ones.

I dunno about best in Philly as I haven’t ordered them at multiple different places…

but I will say one of my favorite Center City experiences was getting high, going to Fergie‘s Pub, and ordering their fried pickles and Bangers ‘n Mash. So good. They also have REALLY good ginger ale. Like it must be house made because it’s unlike any I’ve ever had. Just trust me on this one.

Is their food better than the Hilltown in Manayunk? Because the Manayunk place was kinda ass.

The ones at Grace Tavern are the round kind if you’re that kind of connoisseur.

spears are unacceptable in my opinion. please maximize fried-to-pickle ratio

A couple of years ago I went around Philly to discover the best fried pickles. My friend and I rated it based on breading to pickle, crispiness, and whether the pickle just came out of the breading/casing when bitten into.

The best by far was Village Whiskey. They do pickle chips.

Memphis taproom was second...however, I personally found that there is too much batter to pickle. They do whole pickle spears.

Village Whiskey has solid fried pickles.

Oh Brother has okay ones, but nothing to go out of your way for.

When they have them, Deke’s in Germantown.

Used to always be in menu, but now it seems to come and go. So be sure to check ahead of going.

Rock and Rebel, but they closed a few months ago. Now it will be called The East End, sister restaurant to The West End in Quakertown.

Those were great pickles.

TheAdamist t1_ixua2mh wrote

Spears are weird, half the time the fried layer pulls off when you bite into them giving you a hot pickle and a condom of fried material.

Chips are great, love chips. But a well done spear is unmatched.

Just go visit the American south. I find most northern folks a bit classist when talking about the southern US but I have always loved it there. Plus fried pickles done right.
