I’m looking for some restaurants that are good for bringing kids. We are going to have family visiting from the Bay Area and want to show them some good places to eat in Philly but they have a 6 year old and 9 year old.

Would love yo get some recommendations. We love all kinds of food

Edit: anywhere in the city is good. We live in Germantown so we are used to driving around for food

Thanks

What part of the city? Craft Hall in NoLibs is great. Max Brenner's in Center City is always a hit.

Anywhere. We want to show them different areas. We live in Germantown and have been to a few spots in Chestnut Hill but hoping to go to some new spots this time around

Thanks!

Craft Hall is your answer. Games for kids, kid friendly food, and lots of families in the same boat. Highly recommend.

Reading Terminal, Nifty Fifty’s, Marathon Grill, Max Brenner, Cheesecake Factory, Santucci’s, Frankford Hall (weekend brunch), Sabrina’s/Honeys/Green Eggs (if they’re patient, esp for brunch), Craftsman Row, Thirsty Dice (board games), Craft Hall (brewery but has kids in mind), Iron Hill, Bridget Foys, Hawthornes, Sam’s Morning Glory, Fitzwater Cafe, Franklin Fountain, Pop Shop (in NJ though), Pietro’s

The terminal is number one here. Good answer.

Thanks Panda. I'm the oldest of six and I should really stop bringing them to breweries lol.

Because it’s helpful - they were starting from every restaurant in philly. Narrows it down plenty from how many restaurants actually exist in philly, gives options, might be something on there they like but slipped their mind, might be a place that works well bc of location, and I put in parenthicals some details. They have friends visiting and are looking to show them multiple places, not just one meal in the city with kids.

Reading terminal is a great spot to bring both visitors and kids, good compromise - it has plenty of restaurants within to choose from, all very family friendly and typically thought of as a must see for visitors.

If they don’t feel like looking at any of the suggestions, that’s fine, just giving a starting place but plenty of people can glance at a bunch of menus and pick ones they like best.

I use Top 10- Top 50 lists all the time to pick out my next restaurant selections, it’s not that mind blowingly overwhelming to plenty of people.

Queen and Rook Game Cafe is kid friendly and they have board games.

Idk what part of the city you're in so this might be a hike but Sweet Lucy's is kid friendly and great bbq

MagnusUnda t1_iy9k2za wrote

My six year old loves it here - its fun and worth a trip

You go for the games though, if cuisine is your priority this may not be the place

Ok first of all I love sweet lucy's more than life its self. Living so close to here has become dangerous

Nifty Fifty's is good! Lots of milkshake flavors and free hats :)

There are ALWAYS kids and strollers at Dock Street Brewery on Washington Ave. There's lots of room and the menu is pizza and burgers. Kid staples! Honey's and Sabrina's always a fam-faves. Nam Phuong for Vietnamese is always nice and spacious.

You’d be good at Vetri Pizza too and if in south philly, pizzeria pesto is very family friendly

Craft hall has an indoor play area for kids. It’s actually really cool!

Can't go wrong with going to Chinatown and picking a random restaurant. It's also near Reading Terminal Market for getting dessert afterwards

I agree with the caveat that they aren’t going to be as impressed as visitors from the Midwest or something.

How well behaved are the kids?

I think Yelp and Google Reviews have "kid friendly" filter/checkbox as well, whatever that means.

South Philly Tap Room has one of the best grilled cheeses in the city. It's a bar but not like aggressively so. I've seen kids there before

Oooh yeah I like this suggestion. They’ve always got an interesting menu, the servers are friendly, and I’m sure if you get there before a rush it’ll be plenty chill.

Not in the city, but the Perkiomen Valley Brewery in Green Lane (about half an hour drive from the city) is not only great for kids but they're also specifically set up for kids with Autism to be comfortable while the rest of their family enjoys a fun day out. They have special toys and stuff as well as weighted blankets and a sound proof isolation room. They even have an adult sized motorized adjustable height changing table in one of the bathrooms.

Reading terminal market would be nice, but it could be hard to find a table, if you’re looking for brunch, Green Eggs and Sabrina’s are pretty good but you’ll need to wait in a queue. Bud and Marilyn’s pretty good

Young American is great, and I just took my 4 year old to Lunar Inn for brunch recently, and it was super chill with excellent food.

We visit Young American all the time with our baby. Always tons of families out for brunch on weekends there.

Not in the city but not too far from Germantown - 21 Pips in Ardmore. Board game bar with solid food & cocktails.

Dim sum garden, reading terminal market for Beilers and lunch, cafe lift or Sabrina’s for brunch, Mexican or Vietnamese in the Italian market.

Brauhaus Schmitz is decent with kids. My kids liked the sausages and spaetzle but they also have a kid’s menu with crayons and stuff. Just expect to be put in the less cozy back room with the other families with kids.

I can imagine most breweries. They just seem to always have giant Jenga and other games to keep the kids busy. I’ve noticed families pretty much every time I go to a brewery.

TheBSQ t1_iyd2g5y wrote

It’s kind of funny that no matter the city, your best bet for a kid-friendly place is to go to the local craft brewery or beer garden.

Mcgillins Olde ale house for lunch or early dinner is super kid friendly as long as it’s not an eagles Sunday. Christmas stuff all over the place, good place to stop after doin the macys light show

Yes go to a bar known for being overcrowded and having wasted people everywhere just because there might not be as much of that at lunchtime. This is bad advice.

6

solipsisticsundays t1_iyagfs8 wrote

This is a horrible suggestion 😂

duderino424 t1_iyaobrj wrote

That’s why I said lunch or early dinner, not 11pm on a Saturday. It’s full of history. Close to all the holiday attractions in center city, reasonably priced and can accommodate large groups
