Nothing like trying to watch nude scenes through the scrambled images coming through the switcher box when your parents weren’t subscribers

channel 78 baby (maybe 98?) keep hitting the “last” button on the remote, you just might get a static boob

Was that a static boob or someone’s knee? In the hyperactive imagination of a 14-year-old, did it really matter?

Up here, HBO was on 2, PRISM was on 4. But only if you had the toggle box.

It was only recently that I realized that they called the network “Prism” because it let you see The Spectrum

I grew up in Chester. My mom mom got Prism for free for keeping an eye on the cable guys van so no one would steal his truck or equipment. Got to watch rasslin and the flyers for free

My dad was a cable instillation guy back in the late 80s. I remember this story he used to tell about the time he was sent to Chester to do a job and ended up getting chased with a knife. Must have been disconnecting someone’s cable lol

Cable guys would go in to the houses to do an install and come out to have an empty or missing truck. They used filters back then, these small cylinders (a little smaller then a roll of pennies). You would just screw them on to your cable line and they would give you different channels.

Phillies baseball is what I remember. Harry Kalas, Whitey Ashburn, Chris Wheeler and Andy Musser.

Googoots t1_iwpk4ra wrote

They were the best, but they weren’t on PRISM, so I was always disappointed when the game was on there. Bill Campbell announced the games on PRISM but I can’t remember who else did.

I was a kid at the time and I didn’t know that Bill used to be the regular play by play guy for the Phillies before Harry, Richie, and Andy. Those were the only announcers I knew at the time.

The older I get, the less I remember. :)

I think Campbell’s partner may have been Chris Wheeler. Harry, Richie, and Andy were employed by PHL17 but Wheeler was a Phillies employee. Not sure why that was.

Used to be able to run PRISM through the VCR tuner, fidlle with the tuner and unscramble it. Those were the days

I am with you totally! However, the first time I ever saw Rocky Horror Picture Show movie was on Prism and yes, by today’s standards I was way too young to have watched that movie, but it was pure joy for me! Still love it, so thank you PRISM!

First line in Wikipedia... PRISM is an acronym. That may have been the slogan.

When we first got PRISM in '80-'81, they would run 24 hours on weekends. HBO back then was still going off the air late at night and return around mid-day so being about to watch films and stuff around the clock (if you wanted) on weekends was a thrill. Loved PRISM!

To this day whenever there was a somewhat more obscure movie that my brother and friends saw a lot growing up that not many others have seen, we just say "must've been a Prism movie".
