This is such a good profile! I'm so glad she's doing well, was just thinking the other day that it's been a minute since I'd seen her around.

There was only one true candy lady she passed many years agos but she was a staple outside reading terminal market some say was homeless others belived she was just a lonely ole lady mom remembered her from the 60s n and moms brought be when young late 80s for a penny you got one candy 5 cents 5 candys. Now a days ya cant buy a single fish or .25 clear sandwich bag now gott but abag at a 1.00 n get less than 25 fish

She literally strolled up on me while I was hanging on my stoop. Had a box of candy with her didn’t think anything of it. We talk for awhile, she says let me add you on Instagram. She uses my phone to follow herself on my IG - little did I know she turned post notifications on so I would see every time she posted.
Used to follow her stuff all the time, and always thought to myself - what good marketing.

anyone see abbot elementary? why does it feel that ms Teagues would be a great substitute as the candy lady. I think we found a new Philadelphia person to put on Abbot Elementary. Cameo from the Candy Lady.

Didn’t realize she was such an icon. I got off at Suburban Station once and on my way out she blocked my way and started dancing with me to try to get me to buy candy and singing “buy some of my candy white boy” to the tune of “Play that Funky Music”.
I danced with her until we went 180 degrees and then I could escape lol! She was so mad that I didn’t buy any candy.

holy shit I remember her. I’d go with my grandma to the Terminal all the time and she would ALWAYS be out there saying “penny candy ?!” in that like shrill voice. My grandma would give her money but never actually take any candy haha. She’d yell “thank you!” and “bless you!” as you walked down the entire block.

Yup, that's her, n she hadda be pushing close to 80 when i was a kid, not the guy with guitar is in her spot. In your last sentence, my goo translater needs update?
GooFoYouPal t1_ixz07f6 wrote
oh you must have read it within like seconds of me sending it haha. Sometimes my app gets buggy cuts off and I can’t see wtf I’m typing, so I have to post the comment and then go back and edit it. I didn’t stroke out, promise.

Hahaha thats makes much more sense n my t9 translator usually is up to date that caight me off guard just a thought when that happens n need to send and edit add an ellipsis to it that way we know lol but now my goo translater is update ill be good
GooFoYouPal t1_ixz99yp wrote
That’s a much better tip! Yeah, I read what I wrote and was like 😬, keep that translator up to date though and thanks for the penny candy lady memory haha. My grandma used to get biggest kick out of her.

I used to buy peanut M&Ms from her whenever I'd see her on the sub.
Haven't seen her since pre-pandemic but glad to see she's still out there doing well for herself.
