I just tried to buy a one way regional rail ticket for a ride that will start from a different station than the one I was trying to buy from. The lady told me that was impossible - the only way to buy a ticket for a departure from station x is to go to the ticket window at station x (or buy one on the train).

Is that actually true? That seems awfully stupid if it is. It would seem that anyone should be able to sell me a zone one ticket that I could use on any zone one ride. In fact I'm pretty sure I used to be able to do that.

What gives?

According to, (scroll to the end ) https://www.septakey.org/info/fare-products there should be a "Quick Trip — Regional Rail — All Other Lines, Paper ticket purchased from a Center City Station Fare Kiosk " that you can buy yourself. I dont know when it expires.

But thats only for zone 1-> outlying stations.

Or just buy at the station you are departing from? Buying elsewhere is just complicating things.

Inbound pay the conductor cash.

But really the answer is a reloadable septakey card.
