For years, I’ve had just fine luck going to any given holiday local maker’s market and picking up a multipack of Christmas cards for $20-some dollars.

But for the past three years or so, they’ve basically disappeared and I’ve really had to hunt to find them. I hit up three markets today and found individual cards I liked for like, $5 each, which is more than I want to spend. And I saw a few packs of very tasteful ones, but that’s not really how I do the holidays.

I sent cards from grimgrimgrim last year, and they were perfect, but I’d like to not repeat this year.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Their Craft Bazaar was one of my stops today!

They’re actually a good example of what I’ve been seeing. I like Art Star a lot, but their cards aren’t really the aesthetic I’m looking for - more importantly, they’re in the category I mentioned where they’re all sold by the card, not the pack, and at $5 per card, way out of budget.

That’s also the case, to one extent or the other, with a all of the ones upthread as well, from what I can tell online. The hunt continues….

Aw sorry about that! I thought I remembered them having cheaper ones in their store at the Bourse but maybe I'm wrong.

Also, $5 is definitely not cheap, but you are getting a tiny piece of original art, and those artists also have to make a living too. The venn diagram of cute local artist cards and cheap cards may be two separate circles, unless you find something made by students.... Maybe get one or two cute original ones and then send the cheaper more generic ones to people on your card list who are less important? Or if you have friends who are into art, you could do a Philly christmas card craft night and make a bunch? Sorry if the unsolicited advice is totally off base and good luck!

Oh no worries.

And yeah, I totally get that. If we had never been able to find them in volume at a price point we liked, that’d be what I’d assume too.

But we used to be able to find exactly that without much effort. They were a little smaller and on less expensive paper than the $5 ones, but they’re ephemeral objects destined for the trash, so that was not a problem. And there’s plenty of ones out there by local artists at some of the stores suggested up and down thread at the right price point that are lovely, but aren’t really what I’m looking for (like this would at least be a local store and artists local to somewhere, but we’re not really a “Holly Jolly” kind of house - see the link below).

I still can find matches if I search hard enough (like last year’s, which would be perfect if we didn’t send them last year), so I was hoping that someone else might have a lead to cut the search short.

We’ll figure it out or find some. We’re resourceful and, if all else fails, “our Christmas cards are boring this year” is not an actual problem.

Occasionette and South St. Art Mart are good for this. Also if you can make it to West Craft Fest (Dec 3 & 4 at the Rotunda) there's great sellers

If there is an artist you saw who had some cards you liked reach out to them outside of the craft fair and see if they have a bulk order discount or are willing to negotiate pricing per card.

I have purchased mine for the last few years on Etsy. You can search for sellers in Philadelphia.
