They absolutely have a right to heat, but they also have to have a reasonable amount of time to get shit fixed you can't immediately start escrow or something. Given the holiday, it's going to be tough to get someone out for a repair.

Yes, that’s why I said to notify the landlord in writing so that there’s proof of exactly when they told him about the issue, and to get space heaters in the meantime. If you read the link I provided, a “reasonable amount of time” to get heat fixed is as quick as 1-2 days. So because of the holidays, they should not be afraid to push the landlord to get it fixed on Monday or Tuesday.

It’s going to maybe be expensive to get someone out (not OP’s issue) but there are absolutely people fixing heat in the holiday season

That's nice, I mean the law doesn't specify weather conditions and honestly it sounds like op just had a thermostat problem which is easily fixable
