So before the plague descended upon us, I used to get these treats called Lebkuchen from some Germans who came to the Christmas market at Love Park. Either all the people who worked for that company died or they just don't come to the US anymore, but whatever happened I still need them. So my question to Philly reddit is: do any of you know any seller of Lebkuchen? We're a worldly af city, someone has to sell these somewhere. Any help?

I think there’s a bakery up in Mayfair that sells them around this time, I forget the name though

If it helps, these are also sometimes called Honigkuchen, although I think there's also a slightly different thing called that as well, and there's probably a bunch of people who will tell you they're nothing alike because no one outside their home city/village/region know how to make it properly.

Ouch, that's ... not right. Honigkuchen are a cake-like bread (made with dark beer, yum) and Lebkuchen are a firmer, heavily spiced, bar. I'd be really disappointed to buy Honigkuchen and wind up with Lebkuchen...

This is the thing-- like a lot of German food, the terms are not universal and there is overlap, so you can find different things under the same name and the same thing under different names.

Lebkuchen, Honigkuchen, and Pfefferkuchen can all be the same thing

Lol no it’s not freshly baked obvi but they’re the same prepackaged lebkuchen you’d find at more expensive places. I’m not crazy about the ones with icing but love the dark chocolate ones. Well, I guess more for me!!

In a pinch Lidl tends to carry this sort of thing. One of the things I like about them over Aldi. They carry more of their European products. They especially seem to get down on German Christmas foods.
