I actually did play with mercury as a kid.

Oh... that makes a lot of sense now.

We had a friend whose father always had mining equipment around. That included many bottles of mercury. One of our friends, who seems slow, always poured some in his hand and played with it.

My grandma had a baby food jar of it in the basement. As long as you didn't have any cuts and your hands were clean, you could play with it.

Make sure you wash your hands when you're done!

Seriously, how am I alive in my mid 30s?

The authority figures in your life gave you just enough info to survive this long lol

Don't worry, I'm doing a terrible job of it.

If there's a club, I'm in and you can't keep me out. We are best friends now. Where do we meet?

It's The Anti-Mercury Mercury Club and we meet at -38°C where the terminator can't get us

Ok, I'll see you at my house in Michigan, some time in January

There is no way he did not have cuts on his hands. We were all into racing motocross and rebuilding bikes and the crappy cars we drove. This was not the most dangerous thing we used to do. The fact nobody in our group died was amazing.

Well, death is always imminent.

So, there is always time to play with mercury as an adult.

getspun97 t1_iv48vkx wrote

Me too. In school I think, or some kind of thing where parents pay other adults to raise their kids. Anyway, whoever let me play with mercury told me not to lick my fingers and had me wash my hands, so no harm no foul I guess.

As long as you don't have open wounds. That's all you need.

2

getspun97 t1_iv497l5 wrote

Yeah, in hindsight they probably should have checked for open wounds. But they definitely got the point across that it's a toxic metal in liquid form so at least I know not to play with mercury just for shits and giggles.

2

Buwaro t1_iv49oue wrote

Oh, I played with it for S& and all of the G.

It's impressively heavy in your hand. Like nothing I've ever touched before. Lead is similar, but not liquid and... confusing like mercury.

10/10 would touch it again.

Just don't get enough of it together to form a terminator and we're good

Okay but can we build a mimetic polyalloy puppy to keep forever?

getspun97 t1_iv4a7wb wrote

No complaints here lol

Buwaro t1_iv4aylv wrote

Fuck yeah, forever puppies are the god damn future we deserve.

Chumlee is still very much alive, despite death hoaxes a few years ago. Old man/Harrison is not. Passed from Parkinson’s in June of 2018.
