I don't blame him.

Not only has he seen a tremendous amount of death delivered to his doorstep that he has to bury down deep, but Macron has been trying to play the appeasement game for far too long.

And there Macron is, basically nuzzling him.

With the complete permission from President Zelensky. In fact it is Zelensky who asked Macron to talk with Russia "He will listen to you".
