Middle Eastern countries be like 1890? That's cute...

Are you saying middle-easterners don't give a fuck about kids? Cuz all that guy said was that it's a sad pic.

powerbutts t1_ja7q2he wrote

Not as parents but as society because of child labor and homelessness(again talking about kids) fairly common.

JoanneDark90 t1_jabwug7 wrote

Do you think the US doesn't have a child homelessness issue? More children are shot every year in the US than any middle eastern country (except maybe during active war), the US is the only place outside of the Middle East that regularly marries off little children to full grown adults without the government giving a fuck. There's also religious homeschooling and child beauty pageants, the Midwests two favorite hobbies.

The US is a nightmare of childhood abuse.

Nyc has a very tough history. Read up on tenements, Tammany hall, 5 points, battery park tied to Ellis Island. For extra credit read how the NY Times caused fake electors to be sent in 1876 election causing the wrong person to win.

Also NY times just released a big article on child labor practices in the US today. It's very sad. This is still happening.

For anyone else reading: this guy is literally making stuff up, posting complete fabrications.

There's absolutely no reason to think they would be attacked for just not wearing a hat. They'd certainly get dirty looks for not wearing shoes though.

This was pretty similar to what happened to my great great grandfather. He was dumped on the dock at Ellis Island at 11 or 12- his family all got back on the ship to the Netherlands and left him there with absolutely nothing. He spoke only Dutch. He never was quite right in the head according to my grandpa- it’s amazing he made it from those circumstances.

Arkhangelzk t1_ja80o18 wrote

Why would the whole family come all the way over to drop him off? That would be so much more expensive than simply putting him on the ship in the Netherlands

Why do they all have hats, but I shoes?

Photon_Pharmer t1_ja6ijwt wrote

Shoes were made by hand and more expensive. They also grew out of them quickly. They look to also be sleeping so maybe they took them off?

Taddles2020 t1_ja8e0un wrote

Doubt they owned shoes, look at the dirt on their feet.

Photon_Pharmer t1_ja8g5mp wrote

I thought the same and agree. It is possible though that they could still have tight uncomfortable shoes as a backup, but imo unlikely, hence “maybe.”
