We all knew this wasn't safe then and chose to safely sit on top of the center arm rest so we could see out of the window, or anywhere you could fit in the back of a station wagon. As the youngest child - I often got the makeshitft laydown spot on the rear floorboard too - so my sister could stretch out on the back seat
