I love my Tesla, but hate license plates like this. It reminds me of the old South Park episode about pretentious Prius owners sniffing their own farts.

Like yeah, we get it... It's electric.

Of course it’s going to overall lower emissions in general.

Even if just 10% of electric cars hooked up to nuclear/renewable resources, 90% is still going to be lower than 100%.

The point is that until fossil fuels become less prevalent, electric cars aren’t going to be as environmentally friendly as people want to believe.

Bye gas.

Hello unprepared electrical grid.

I think people in general have a pretty good understanding that the benefits of EV cars depend on the source of their power generation, and that the promise of EVs depends on pushing for more generation by renewables. Also the flip side, that regardless of what happens with primary power generation, none of it matters unless we are all or mostly driving EVs.

You are correct that EVs aren't 100% environmentally friendly, but they're far better than driving an ICE vehicle, which is the point that most people are trying to make. On the other hand, opposition to EV adoption tends to either assume that EVs are somehow worse than ICE vehicles, or that because EVs are not 100% environmentally friendly that they shouldn't be used at all.

As a climate activist this sends me up a tree. I live in a city with mainly renters who live in two families with no charging capability. The group I am with are looking into changing that. But I have been in meetings with suburbanites who express amazement that anyone drives gas- “don’t they know electric is cheaper?” Don’t get me started on solar. They are well meaning but so insulting. I call it out in a nice way but enough already! It costs money to be green- it’s crazy but the reality.

Glad you brought that up. We watched the first half of that episode, then happened to buy a Prius. Got a vanity license plate based on it. (No, I'm not saying what it was.)

Then we watched the rest of the episode. Ooops.

Anyway, it made our kids laugh and that was really the main goal...

People who think their ice engine is more fuel efficient than a literal multi million dollar energy plant are pure comedy to me. I work in automotive and it’d so hard to bite my tongue about it sometimes
