This is the best news about Pittsburgh I've heard all year. If you haven't been to Piper's, and even though they're not operating taps right now according to the article, go. One of the best bars in the city, and the full menu is really good. It's been a 10/10 for me (a sports fan) every time, but if you don't like sports it's great off hours.

Here's hoping they're ready because those first few weekends are going to be packed.

So while this thread is active I've been looking for a beer I had there once. I was only there once a few years ago and I had a few drafts of beer that I loved and I cannot remember the name and nothing ever struck me as a familiar name while searching for it. It was an English brew, an ale or a lager I can't remember now. Probably one of their more popular beers. Anyone know?!

Dumb question: is there a connection between Piper's Pub and the Pub Chip Shop next door? They seem to have similar menu items, but I don't know anything about Piper's Pub pre-pandemic.

A sibling restaurant; lots of the same staff, Pub Chip Shop is more take away style. Though pre-COVID you could eat in - fish & chips, fantastic pies (chicken, tikka), Thai chili chicken tacos, boxty tot boxes - tater tots made from the same boxty recipe popular with Piper’s breakfast/brunch menu. I would say the best and most consistent year round fish & chips. Just Good Donuts is also in the Pub Chip Shop, fresh made donuts. Great stuff, great people.

We used to go for lunch on Good Friday every year with a group of friends. I hope they come back all the way so we can continue this tradition.

Also hope they bring back the vindaloo!

On that note, please remember this was not an official opening. They had 5 people on staff and were packed shoulder to shoulder this morning. Please be kind and patient as they get back on their feet. Shout out to the table that left because they didn’t want to wait for the check and didn’t leave enough cash to cover their bill. Not cool.

If they weren't maintained while closed, it's probably easier to put new lines in than to clean the old ones. Even while not attached to a keg, there's plenty of moisture in there to make it sketchy after a few years.

I am not going to Morgantown ever during a Pitt game. I wore a Pitt hat one time and some drunk guy tried to fight me at like 2 in the afternoon. I know better now.
